Description

Most printed leaflets get a glance. A gate fold gets opened. Two outer flaps meet in the middle of the cover, and the reader has to pull them apart to see what’s inside — which is exactly the point. Behind them sits a wide centre spread, uninterrupted by folds, ready to carry your strongest image or your most important information. Six panels in total, three printed on each side of the sheet.

It’s a format that has stayed popular for a simple reason: it feels considered. Handing someone a gate fold says you put thought into the piece before you put thought into the message. For launches, proposals and anything you want kept rather than binned, that first impression does a lot of the work.

What you can put inside

The gate fold is flexible enough for almost any business. The centre spread suits a full-bleed photograph, a floor plan, a menu, a price table or a product range laid out side by side. The two flaps work well as an introduction — your logo, a headline, a short opening paragraph — with supporting detail on their reverse once the brochure is open.

Businesses use this format for company profiles, product catalogues, property and project brochures, event programmes, restaurant and café menus, service price lists, exhibition handouts and invitation suites. If you have content that needs a bit of breathing room and a bit of ceremony, this is the fold for it.

Sizes and paper

Standard sizes run from A5 through A4 up to A3, and custom dimensions are available if your content needs something different — just share the measurements and we’ll work to them.

For paper, the choice usually comes down to how the brochure will be used. Lighter art paper keeps costs sensible for handouts and mailers distributed in volume. Heavier card gives the piece weight and rigidity, which matters when it’s going into a client’s hands during a meeting or sitting on a counter for weeks. Finishing Options

Finishing is where a brochure stops looking printed and starts looking produced. Matte lamination gives a soft, understated surface that resists fingerprints. Gloss lifts colour and makes photography pop. Soft-touch lamination adds a velvet feel that people notice the moment they pick it up.

Beyond lamination, you can add spot UV over selected areas such as a logo or headline, gold and silver foil stamping, or embossing for a raised, tactile finish. These can be combined — soft-touch with spot UV over the logo is a common pairing on premium work.

Quantities

Order whatever the job needs. Small runs make sense for a single event, a pitch meeting or a limited launch, while larger volumes bring the cost per piece down considerably and suit ongoing distribution. Tell us your quantity along with your specification and we’ll quote accordingly.

Artwork and design

If you have a designer, send a print-ready file in CMYK with bleed included, and keep important text away from the fold lines and trim edges. We’ll check the file before anything goes on press.

If you don’t, our design team can build the whole layout from your content, photographs and brand assets. You’ll approve a digital proof before printing begins, and any changes you want at that stage are straightforward to make. It’s usually the quicker route if your material is sitting in a mix of documents and folders rather than a finished design.
